Real Reality TV

Although clearly parodies, the twitter accounts of some soap stars has recently got me thinking. Why do we watch soaps? Are the characters even acting anymore after playing the same role day-in, day-out? Do they make us feel better about our lives? I’ve just watched the Eastenders omnibus and all I’ve concluded is that Cat is still, excuse my language, a slut, but that’s fine with Alfie because Alfie’s always played the nice one,  pregnancy and marriage are once again depressing, and Ben is still there – why? As the audience do we mind that the same themes are recycled again and again, or do we push it to the back of our minds because, well, what else would we do in that half an hour every day? It’s not just themes now though, Hollyoak’s got desperate apparently and Jacqui Dixon from Brookside is now their Diane O’Connor. Although seemingly ironic as that so blatantly underlines the artifice of the show, is this real reality TV?

We firmly believe that Jeremy Kyle is a bad reflection of our nation, but Eastender’s have consciously chosen to portray these  character’s lives that really are no better.

If this is our ‘reality’ it sure is depressing, I don’t know why so many people are hooked. I mean, I’m only watching Eastender’s to see Ian Beale come back looking like this…

#SECOND HAND #FLORAL

Floral Print has never been out of fashion, so we should all be one step ahead this Summer and already have a flowery number hidden in our wardrobe. Floral epitomises femininity but it seems men couldn’t resist the print this Summer and have jumped on our bangwagon. And I personally am not complaining…

From sheer floral floaty dresses to bold floral jeans, floral is taking over this season. And nothing else seems more fitting. With colourful hair, statement jewellery and block colours dominating the high street and the runways, it seems we have gone back to 60s just in time for the festival season.

But if you can’t afford the new ICEBERG floral blazer fear not, as floral has always been in fashion there is plenty of it available second hand.  Here are some numbers I have picked up in charities or Ebay over the last couple of years.

NB. This is no Gok Wan designer to high street, everything found is unique and who’s to say not worth more , it just cost a lot less!

Teaming floral with denim is a classic that will never cease to look good. The chunky brogues and 70s baggy jeans give the floral a current vintage edge.

Top: £1.99 Red Cross, Jeans: £3.50 PDSA, Shoes second hand vintage shop: £7

The perfect outfit for an evening in a pub garden =£12.49

Do not assume that floral is bound to being day wear. This next outfit shows that floral is not just pretty but also sexy. The batwing style buttoned top goes perfectly with my customised leather shorts. Team with some DM’s or some black Creepers to make floral punky or gothic.

Top: £2.99 British Heart Foundation, Leather Shorts (originally trousers) £3.99 PDSA

The perfect outfit for a night out or a gig = £6.98

Wimbledon is a big part of our British Summer. White dresses, polo shirts and striped blazers go hand in hand with strawberries and cream! These two pieces go just as well together, the tailored pastel shorts boyishly complimenting the cropped blouse. Game set and match with some white or pastel vans.

Top: £1.99 Red Cross, Shorts: £2.49 Help the Aged

The perfect outfit to watch the tennis in  = £4.48 (cheaper than a glass of Pimms!)

Summer isn’t summer without a trip to the beach.  The sun coming out seems to be an excuse for us Brits to wear as little as possible and why not! Look the part in bright shorts and a brighter bikini top, oh and a denim sleeveless cropped shirt…in case it gets cold hehe

Bikini: £4 Beyond Retro, Top: £1.99 Red Cross, Shorts: £2.99 Oxfam, Sunglasses: £1.99 Red Cross

The perfect Beach outfit = £10.97

Go and give to charity girls and look amazing this Summer! My friend is popping over later so I’ll take some snaps of her modelling some more floral beauties!
